Abbey Fingeret, MD, MHPTT, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine. She is an Endocrine Surgeon who completed her residency training at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY, and her fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University in Boston, MA. She completed a Surgical Education Research Fellowship from the Association for Surgical Education and obtained a Master’s of Health Professions Teaching and Technology from UNMC. She has advanced training in Simulation Education and Core Skills for Coaching. 

Dr. Fingeret has academic interests in medical education, curricular development, education research and faculty development. She has received numerous teaching and educational administration and research awards including the Association for Surgical Education Linnea Hauge Promising Educational Scholar Award, University of Nebraska Medical Center Interprofessional Academy of Educators Innovative Practices in Education Award, University of Nebraska Medical Center iExcel Academic Innovation Award, University of Nebraska Medical Center iExcel Collaborative Interprofessional Education Award and she is a member of the prestigious American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Educators. She has given over 50 invited lectures, authored 40 peer-reviewed publications, 15 book chapters, and 73 abstracts. 

Her passion and enthusiasm for undergraduate medical education inspire her curricular innovations. She is co-director of the College of Medicine Residency Preparatory Course, an interactive simulation curriculum for graduating medical students. She is proud to serve as the Vice Chair of the College of Medicine Curriculum Committee, as co-director of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Clinical Educator Enhanced Medical Education Track, and as the Chair of the Association for Surgical Education Assessment, Curriculum and Evaluation Committee.
