Art Hiranyakas is an experienced academic colorectal surgeon. He is the Director of Bangkok-Phuket Colorectal Disease Institute, Center of Excellence. He served as a Governor-At-Large for the American College of Surgeons, Chicago, USA. He’s also the President of the American College of Surgeons, Thailand Chapter. He’s recently selected as Assistant Federation Secretary for the International College of Surgeons (ICS) Pacific Federation. He has appointed as fellow for many well-known organization namely the American College of Surgeons (ACS), American Society of Colon and Rectum Surgeons (ASCRS), Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and International College of Surgeons (ICS).
His academic background started as an Instructor of Surgery at Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand, right after his completion of General Surgery Residency training from the same institution in 2002. Dr. Hiranyakas was involved in both the undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He completed his colorectal surgery training in the National University Hospital, National University Singapore in 2004. His advanced training in Colorectal Endoscopy, University of Showa in 2005, Japan, also provides him with advanced skills in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies. He continued his training in Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery in Queensland, Australia in 2007, Robotic (da Vinci robotic surgical system) Colorectal Surgery from University of California, San Diego, USA in 2011. and Korea University, Seoul, Korea in the same year. He then completed the Advanced Training in Colorectal Surgery and Pelvic Floor Physiology from Cleveland Clinic Florida, USA (2009-2011). He was appointed as a Professor at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in 2009. He subsequently awarded the doctor of philosophy (PhD.) from School of Medicine and Dentistry, James Cook University (JCU), Queensland, Australia in 2019. His training has included wide range of common and complex colorectal surgery and diseases including current medical treatments, minimally invasive colorectal surgery, surgery for advanced disease, re-do surgery, functional anorectal physiology and endoanal/endorectal ultrasonography.
His unique overseas training and experiences of over a thousand colorectal surgery cases have provided a broad range of colorectal procedures. Dr. Hiranyakas has been invited and given over hundreds of lectures in all the continents worldwide (in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia). Furthermore, he was awarded as an “Outstanding Professional Qualities” among the candidate surgeons around the world during the Jubilee World Congress of the International College of Surgeons in 2015. He has authored numerous publications and book chapters under Prince of Songkla University, James Cook University and Cleveland Clinic Florida. He has also devoted as editorial boards and reviewer for many peer-reviewed, high impact factors international journals in the field of colorectal surgery. He has regularly directed and organized the bi-annual world renowned, International Colorectal Disease Symposium that taken place in both Phuket and Bangkok since 2013.
