Dr Bart A. van Wagensveld (MD 1995 – PhD 1998 University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands) is a board certified Consultant General, Laparoscopic and Bariatric surgeon (SCOPE certified). He is director of the EASO Collaborating Centres for Obesity Management accredited Metabolic and Bariatric Unit at NMC Royal Hospital in Abu Dhabi and Lead for Overweight and Obesity treatment at GluCare Diabetes Center in Dubai.
He is a passionate medical doctor with a long history of teaching medical students, interns, residents and clinical fellows.
He has a strong Academic profile (over 100 peer reviewed articles, 4 book chapters and member of the editorial board at Obesity Surgery), was chairman of the Dutch Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (DSMBS), initiator and organizer of 4 International consensus meetings and 1 International conference and initiator of the Dutch Bariatric National Registry. Per January 2023 he is appointed as adjucnt Clinical Professor of Surgery at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
His research interests are in the field of Obesity and treatment outcomes - Obesity related diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome with infertility - Integrated lifestyle intervention and its components: dietetics, psychology and physical exercise - Different weight loss treatments such as medication, endoscopic and surgical procedures - Healthcare analytics such as value based healthcare, health care registries and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery programs - Quality of life and Patient reported outcome measurements (PROMS) - Gastrointestinal diseases, Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease and colorectal diseases in particular - Digital health
