Dr. Malavaud, MD, PhD, FEBU, is Professor of Urology at Toulouse University (est. 1229) and Head of Onco-Urology at the Toulouse Cancer Institute, an OECI-accredited Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Beyond his clinical focus on prostate cancer (imaging, transperineal biopsy) and bladder cancer (en bloc endoscopic dissection), as well as on the positioning of medical innovation in oncology (meta-analyses, cost-of-care studies), his translational research has centered on sphingolipid metabolism and the role of adipocytes in cancer.
He was awarded the 2004 European Association of Urology Crystal Matula Award in recognition of his contributions to science and urology. In 2016, he patented a technology enabling the capture of circulating tumor cells based on their physical characteristics (size and rigidity), and co-founded SmartCatch°, a spinoff of the French Council of Scientific Research.
He currently serves on the Board of the European Association of Urology, where he is in charge of membership.
