Dr. Christie Bialowas is a Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon and Associate Professor at Albany
Medical Center in Albany, New York. She has been on faculty there for over four years after
moving from San Antonio Texas where she completed her Plastic Surgery residency and stayed
on as Faculty there for nearly five years. She is board certified in both General Surgery and
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and performs complex reconstructive procedures including
limb salvage and microsurgery.
She is vice-Chair of the Fundamental in Plastic Surgery Resident Education Network for plastic
surgery as well and for the Aging Parents module in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons
wellness committee. She has moderated numerous premeeting workshops and presentations
with the Association of Surgical Educators on microaggressions, conflict management and
bystander bias, some of which have led to publications in the field. She is also a member of the
American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons Education Committee.
She is heavily involved in simulation and surgical education with her residents as well as
residents in other fields. This has led to a cadaver curriculum and patient actor simulations.
Her main professional and scientific interests focus on reconstruction of complex wounds,
orthoplastic procedures, simulation, and education.
