In 1983 he started his residency at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona until 1988, and participated in the beginning of the liver transplant program from 1988 until 1996. At that time he trained in open surgery and specifically in HPB (Hepatobiliopancreatic) surgery. In 1990 he joined the surgery service of the Hospital Universitario Mutua Terrassa to develop the HPB surgery unit where they were pioneers in laparoscopic liver surgery in Spain. The Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital is developing the robotic surgery program as part of the HPB surgery and, on the other hand, a program of extreme liver surgery that allows to treat hopeless patients.
