Dr. Gina M. Northington is a board-certified gynecologic surgeon and recognized academic leader in the field of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. She currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Emory University School of Medicine, where she also holds several leadership positions: Director of the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and Chief of Clinical Service for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Emory University Hospital.
Dr. Northington obtained both her MD and PhD degrees and has consistently bridged the worlds of clinical care and academic research throughout her career. Her expertise spans complex pelvic floor disorders, urogynecologic surgery, and innovation in minimally invasive techniques. She has played a central role in the development of multidisciplinary programs at Emory aimed at advancing care for women with pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and other debilitating pelvic floor conditions.
Under her leadership, Emory’s Female Pelvic Medicine program has grown into a nationally recognized center for excellence, combining cutting-edge surgical practice with compassionate, patient-centered care. Dr. Northington has mentored numerous medical students, residents, and fellows, fostering the next generation of clinician-scientists in urogynecology.
In addition to her clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Northington is actively involved in research initiatives focusing on the pathophysiology of pelvic floor disorders and the development of novel surgical techniques and technologies. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and is a frequent speaker at national and international medical conferences.
