Dr. Guillermo Ponce de León Ballesteros received his degree in Surgery from the Mexican School of Medicine of La Salle University, where he graduated third in his class. He is a specialist in General Surgery from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, having completed his specialty at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán.
In addition, he is an endocrine surgeon graduated from said institute and a bariatric surgeon graduated from the ABC Medical Center and Mohak Hospital in India. He is certified by the National Regulatory Committee of Medical Specialties Councils (CONACEM) and the Mexican Council of General Surgery, both for general surgery and bariatric surgery.
He has made training stays abroad, including the University Hospital of Birmingham (Alabama, USA) and MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, Texas, USA). He completed the Clinical Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics Hospital (Indore, India), which is the center with the highest volume of bariatric surgery in Asia-Pacific.
Dr. Ponce de Leon has participated in more than 450 bariatric procedures since his training. In addition, he is a member of the Mexican College of Surgery for Obesity and Metabolic Diseases (CMCOEM), the International Federation of Surgery for Obesity (IFSO), the Mexican Association of General Surgery (AMCG) and the European Endoscopic Surgery Society (EAES).
He has participated as a speaker and professor in multiple national and international congresses, where he has also been recognized with several awards for the quality of the work presented. He has multiple publications in journals of great international impact in the areas of: endocrine surgery, bariatric surgery and general surgery.
His main interest is in bariatric surgery and its metabolic effect, as well as in thyroid and parathyroid surgery, fields in which he has made multiple publications in high impact international journals.
