Dr. Heather Yeo is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medical College, and an Associate Attending Surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She is board-certified in general surgery, colon and rectal surgery, and complex general surgical oncology.
Dr. Yeo is an NIH-funded investigator, who has been conducting health services research since her time as a Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Clinical Scholar in 2008. As an RWJ Clinical Scholar, she trained in clinical study design and methodology, earning a master’s degree in health services research. Her research includes the development, implementation, and analysis of the NEARS study, a three-year prospective cohort study of all general surgery residents in the United States. As the principal investigator, she published the first comprehensive study on surgical resident attrition and training expectations in JAMA. Dr. Yeo has presented her research findings at numerous conferences and published in leading surgical journals, including JAMA Surgery, Annals of Surgery, and Surgery.
Currently, she serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and BMJ-SIT. Dr. Yeo is also the Vice President of the New York Society for Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Treasurer for the Association of Women Surgeons.
Her current research interests focus on enhancing the delivery of surgical care, addressing surgical workforce disparities, and improving patient functional outcomes and quality of life following surgery.
