Dr. Joan Fontdevila, born in Barcelona, graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Barcelona, obtaining his degree with the qualification of Outstanding in 1994. He completed the specialty of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery via MIR at the Hospital de Bellvitge in Barcelona, obtaining 20th place in the MIR exam (more than 17,000 candidates took the exam). He always stood out for being a brilliant student with an impeccable academic record. He obtained his doctorate with the qualification of Excellent cum laude in 2008 at the University of Barcelona with the doctoral thesis entitled: "Atrophy of facial fat in HIV+ patients. Treatment by injection of autologous adipose tissue".
His training also includes stays abroad, at Stanford University in California, at the Clinic of Dr. James Stuzin (former president of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) in Miami, and at the Dr. Obagi Clinic of Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.
He is currently the Chief of the Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery Service at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and Professor of the Department of Surgery and Surgical Specialties of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona.
He is director of the master of the University of Barcelona "Advanced reconstructive surgery of soft tissue and head and neck".
He is a researcher of the research group of musculoskeletal repair and plasticity of the Institute of Biomedical Research August Pi i Sunyer. He is the Vice President of the Spanish Society of Fat Transplantation (SETGRA).
He is an international opinion leader and one of the world pioneers in fat transplantation techniques, regenerative cell surgery and treatment of HIV lipodystrophy. His research interests (especially in the field of breast, facial and fat metabolism surgery) have led him to be the author of numerous publications in international and national scientific journals, speaker at numerous international and national congresses, director of several research projects and doctoral theses, and author of chapters in scientific books. He is always interested in the latest scientific advances in order to offer his patients the best treatments.
