Dr. Jon Bruce

Dr. Bruce was born and raised near Buffalo, NY. He completed undergraduate studies at Niagara University and attended medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He also finished his general surgery residency at SUNY at Buffalo and entered active duty in the US Army as a general surgeon in 1998. He was initially assigned to the 212th MASH, the last MASH in the US Army based in Wiesbaden, Germany. He was deployed in conflict twice during his tour, and was honorably discharged in 2002. He entered private practice as a general surgeon initially in Macon, Georgia, and relocated to Cary, North Carolina in 2006. His bariatric career started in 2007. In 2018, his group joined WakeMed. He has served as the Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed published articles on SADI-S, while also being a national speaker, educator, and preceptor/proctor for the procedure. Dr. Bruce lives with his wife on their hobby farm in New Hill, North Carolina. They have four children, two grandchildren, sixteen chickens, and six guinea fowl. His chief interests are ballet, football, and his family.
