José Javier Fuster Ortuño (Altea, Alicante, 1982) is a Ramón y Cajal researcher at the National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC). He began investigating genes involved in cancer with a possible role in vascular diseases; at Boston University (USA) he obtained the first evidence that there are acquired mutations that contribute to the development of atherosclerosis and are therefore a cardiovascular risk factor in addition to those already known, such as hypertension.
