Dr. Joan Sancho Insenser graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona in 1980 and completed his doctoral thesis (1989) on the pathogenesis of hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic renal failure. He trained as a general surgeon via MIR at the Sabadell Hospital (1980-1985). He completed his training at the Department of Surgery at the University of California in San Francisco (1986-87). He is a Full Professor (H) of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Head of Section of the General and Digestive Surgery Service at Hospital del Mar. He is a founding member of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons. He is currently a member of the Council of the Board of Endocrine Surgery, which regulates the European examinations of the specialty, and a member of the Board of the Endocrine Surgery Section of the Spanish Association of Surgeons. His contribution to the scientific literature in Endocrine Surgery includes the Endocrine Surgery Guide of the Spanish Association of Surgeons (two editions) and numerous articles and book chapters in national and international magazines. He has presented more than 200 communications and papers at international and national conferences.
