Dr. Julian Sanchez is a colorectal surgeon in the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center. He is Associate Professor of Surgery and Associate Professor of Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. He is board certified in both general surgery and in colorectal surgery. Dr. Sanchez’s clinical interests include colon and rectal cancer, anal cancer, high resolution anoscopy, genetic cancer syndromes, and minimally invasive surgery. His research centers on HPV infection and associated anal cancer. He is especially interested in the progression of anal dysplasia in immunosuppression and in screening programs for high risk patients. Dr. Sanchez is originally from South Florida and graduated with highest honors from the University of Florida with a degree in Biochemistry. He attended Tufts University School of Medicine and graduated in 2003. Dr. Sanchez came to the University of South Florida for his general surgery residency and spent additional time researching colorectal cancer genetics. After completing general surgery residency, Dr. Sanchez received additional, specialized training in colon and rectal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He practiced as a colorectal cancer surgeon in Los Angeles before returning to Moffitt Cancer Center in 2013. His research has been published in multiple journal articles, and he has written several book chapters. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the International Anal Neoplasia Society. Dr. Sanchez is fluent in Spanish.
