Dr. Kazumi Kawase

Dr. Kazumi Kawase has dedicated a substantial portion of his life to the field of surgery, accumulating a wealth of experience and expertise along the way. His journey began in May 1987, and over the years, he has played various roles, contributing significantly to both clinical practice and academic research.

From May 1987 to March 1992, Dr. Kawase underwent his Surgical Residency at Mitsui Memorial Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, where he laid the foundation for his surgical skills. He continued to hone his abilities as an Assistant Surgeon in the Department of Surgery at The Jikei University School of Medicine from April 1996 to December 1996.

Dr. Kawase's commitment to healthcare extended beyond conventional settings, as he served as a Ships' Doctor at the Institute for Sea Training under the Ministry of Transport in Tokyo, Japan, from January 1997 to March 1997.

His pursuit of knowledge and international exposure led him to the United States, where he served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston from July 1998 to February 2001.

Returning to Japan, Dr. Kawase resumed his role as an Assistant Surgeon at The Jikei University School of Medicine from March 2001 to December 2003. He further specialized in Breast Surgery as a Fellow in the Department of Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, from May 2003 to June 2004.

Over the years, Dr. Kawase climbed the academic ladder, transitioning from Assistant Surgeon to Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at The Jikei University School of Medicine, holding this position from November 2008 to December 2011. He continued his academic contributions as an Assistant Professor at The Jikei University School of Medicine Katsushika Medical Center from January 2012 to January 2015.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Kawase took on responsibilities as the Vice Manager of The Office for Women’s Careers at The Jikei University School of Medicine, serving from October 2011 to March 2020. His dedication to mentorship and career development was evident as he assumed the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at The Jikei University School of Medicine Katsushika Medical Center in February 2016, a role he continues to fulfill to the present day.

Dr. Kawase's commitment to career advancement is highlighted by his role as an Advisor at the Career Promotion Center, The Jikei University School of Medicine, starting from April 2020. His responsibilities expanded further in April 2022 when he took on the role of Director of the Department of Blood Transfusion at The Jikei University School of Medicine Katsushika Medical Center. Additionally, he holds the esteemed position of Professor in the Department of Surgery since October 2022, marking the pinnacle of his academic and professional achievements.
