Prof. Luigi Marano, MD, PhD, MSc, is a distinguished Italian surgeon and academic leader specializing in oncologic and minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. He currently serves as the Rector’s Plenipotentiary for the Development of International Cooperation in the Field of Medical Sciences at the Academy of Applied Medical and Social Sciences – AMiSNS (Akademia Medycznych i Społecznych Nauk Stosowanych) in Elbląg, Poland, where he also holds a professorship in the Department of Medicine.
Born in Maddaloni (Caserta), Italy, in 1983, Prof. Marano earned his MD with honors from the Second University of Naples in 2007. He completed his specialization in General Surgery in 2014, followed by a PhD in Biotechnologies Applied to Medical and Surgical Sciences. He further pursued advanced postgraduate training in digestive oncologic surgery and robotic/hybrid surgery, refining his expertise in complex minimally invasive procedures.
Before joining AMiSNS, Prof. Marano held academic and clinical positions at prestigious Italian institutions, including the University of Siena and the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli.” His clinical focus includes esophageal and gastric cancer surgery, hiatal hernia repair, and advanced laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
Prof. Marano has authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals, covering topics such as gastrointestinal oncologic surgery, robotic and laparoscopic innovation, and surgical education. He is an active member of several surgical societies and participates in numerous international collaborations and academic exchange initiatives.
At AMiSNS, he plays a key role in strengthening global academic and scientific cooperation, promoting modern educational approaches such as problem-based and case-based learning, and fostering interdisciplinary medical education.
