Dr. Luis Chiroque-Benites is a Colorectal Surgeon, and his clinical practice focuses on advanced laparoscopic gastrointestinal Surgery at the Department of Colorectal Surgery, Almenara Hospital, in Lima, Peru, a 1,215-bed hospital.
He earned a master’s degree in health service administration from the University of Puerto Rico, PR, USA. He is an associate professor of Surgery and Bioethics at The Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC), which is a member of the Laureate International Universities group, and he has been the Program Director of the General Surgery residency program at Almenara hospital.
Dr. Chiroque-Benites is the former President of the Peruvian Society of Endoscopic Surgery (SPCE) and former Vice President of the Society. He has been a member of the SPCE Board of Directors since 2012.
He is an active member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), International Society for Fluorescence Guided Surgery (ISFGS), Latin American Federation of Surgery (FELAC), and the Latin American Coloproctology Association (ALACP) among other scientific societies.
In 2018, he received the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) “Recognition of Excellence” award from its former President, Daniel Jones.
He lectures nationally and internationally, mainly on colorectal and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He was the Chairperson and Conference Organiser for the National and International Endoscopic Surgery Congress 2010-2021.
He is the author and co-author of scientific papers published in peer-reviewed impact factored scientific journals, and he is the Editor-in-chief of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Peruvian Society of Endoscopic Surgery.
His main professional and scientific interests focus on colorectal oncology surgery, minimally invasive colorectal surgery, transanal endoscopic resection, quality of care, bioethics, and health service administration.
