Dr. Magdy Milad is the Albert B. Gerbie Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the Chief of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Northwestern Medicine. In his role, Dr. Milad leads the Center for Complex Gynecology, a specialized, multidisciplinary clinic designed to address a wide range of complex benign gynecologic conditions. His leadership and expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques have made the Center a beacon of hope for women with challenging gynecologic issues, providing comprehensive and personalized care.
Dr. Milad’s academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, followed by a medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beaumont Oakland University Hospital and pursued a fellowship in Reproductive Medicine and Infertility at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology, and Infertility, and also holds the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) Focused Practice certification in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS).
During his tenure at Northwestern, Dr. Milad has served in several key leadership roles, including a 13-year appointment as the Residency Program Director and an 8-year tenure as Fellowship Director. His commitment to education and mentorship has been unwavering, having personally mentored over 500 residents and fellows in advanced surgical techniques. Additionally, he has played an instrumental role in shaping surgical education and training, serving as a course director or faculty member for more than 200 national and international training programs, including those led by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO), the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG), and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
Beyond his contributions to education in the United States, Dr. Milad has collaborated with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) International to establish training accreditation standards outside of the U.S., extending the impact of his expertise globally. He has also been a key figure in the Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (FMIGS) programs, both nationally and internationally, ensuring that the next generation of surgeons are equipped with the highest level of skills and knowledge.
Dr. Milad’s prolific research output includes the authorship of over 400 peer-reviewed publications and presentations. As a respected voice in the academic community, he serves as a reviewer for multiple medical journals and is frequently sought after for his insights on surgical safety and complication reduction. His dedication to these areas is reflected in his ongoing efforts to refine and enhance surgical techniques in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to medical education, Dr. Milad was honored with the 2024 APGO Lifetime Achievement Award, a testament to his enduring commitment to the advancement of surgical education.
As the Chief of the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Dr. Milad performs advanced surgical procedures, including laparoscopic an hysteroscopic surgeries for conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, adhesions, tubal disease, and ovarian cysts. His expertise extends to complex procedures such as laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy, and cystectomy, as well as hysteroscopic
removal of fibroids and adhesions. He has also developed specialized knowledge in the management of congenital anomalies such as vaginal agenesis and other Müllerian duct anomalies.
With decades of experience, Dr. Milad is recognized as one of the foremost experts in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and his work continues to improve the lives of countless women both in the United States and abroad.
