Nicole Saur, MD, FACS, FASCRS is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the Director of Geriatric Surgery and Director of the PeRioperative Evaluation and Planning (PREP) Program at Pennsylvania Hospital. She did her General Surgery training at Tufts Medical Center and her Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida. She has an interest in improving care with multidisciplinary collaboration and runs the colorectal tumor board at the University of Pennsylvania and is the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Champion for Pennsylvania Hospital. Dr. Saur worked to establish the Geriatric Surgery and PREP programs and Pennsylvania Hospital to improve care of geriatric patients and enhance focus on patient-centered care. In addition to work locally, she is the chair of the Geriatric Surgery Special Interest Group at the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Vice-Chair of the Surgical ad-hoc Committee at the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG). She was honored to participate in the international, multi-center The Geriatric Oncology Surgical Assessment and Functional rEcovery after Surgery (GOSAFE) study evaluating the effects of major cancer surgery on functional recovery and quality of life in older patients. She has a clinical interest in decreasing the impact of surgery via minimally invasive approaches and optimized, individualized enhanced recovery pathways.
