Prof. Roberto Persiani is an expert in General Surgery. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1994 and specialized in Thoracic Surgery in 1999 at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, holds a Master's degree in Colorectal Surgery from the National Institute of Tumors in Milan and has participated in numerous refresher and advanced training courses in Italy and abroad. Prof. Persiani is mainly involved in Oncologic and Minimally Invasive Surgery of the digestive system and the treatment of numerous types of cancer including esophageal, stomach, colon, rectum and small intestine cancer. He also has extensive experience in the treatment of colonic diverticula, gallbladder disease and hernias. He is among the few Surgeons in the world who performs a highly innovative and minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of rectal cancers using a transanal approach (taTME) and, for about two years, has been directing courses for learning this technique to Italian and foreign colorectal Surgeons. Author of numerous publications and member of prestigious Scientific Societies, he is currently practicing in private practice at his Medical Office in Rome and at the Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli as Head of the Simple Operative Unit of Minimally Invasive Oncology Surgery, where he also serves as Member of the Scientific Committee of the Center for Research and Training in Human Nutrition (CNU).
