Dr. Yuichi Nagakawa is a globally recognized hepatobiliary pancreatic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive pancreatic surgery and pancreatic cancer treatment. He currently serves as Chairman of the Department of Gastrointestinal and Pediatric Surgery at Tokyo Medical University and as Vice President of Tokyo Medical University Hospital.

After earning his medical degree, Dr. Nagakawa completed his residency and clinical fellowship in surgery at Tokyo Medical University Hospital. He further honed his expertise as a research fellow at Johns Hopkins University from 2002 to 2004. In 2021, he was appointed full Professor, and in 2022, he assumed the role of Department Chair.

Dr. Nagakawa is a prominent member of several academic societies and has been instrumental in advancing surgical education and research. He holds board positions in the Japanese Society for Endoscopic Surgery, the Japanese Society of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery, and other leading medical associations. Additionally, he serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences and the Asian Journal of Endoscopic Surgery. Dr. Nagakawa has published over 250 scientific papers, and he has received several awards, including the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract Residents and Fellows Research Award, the Japanese College of Surgeons Best Paper Award, and the Japanese Society for Endoscopic Surgery Karl Storz Award. He has also been honored with two Best Original Article Awards and Best Citation Awards from the Japanese Society of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery. In 2024, he received the esteemed Ohgami Award from the Japanese Society for Endoscopic Surgery.

Dr. Nagakawa is also known for his commitment to international education, having hosted numerous overseas surgical trainees. His leadership in these fields has significantly contributed to the development of advanced surgical techniques and improved surgical outcomes in pancreatic surgery internationally.
