The Department of Thoracic Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University

The Department of Thoracic Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University was established in 2002, and is a clinical specialty integrating clinical, teaching and scientific research. It has five wards with 300 beds, with subspecialties in esophagus, lung, airway, and mediastinum. It is ranked among the top 10 thoracic surgeons in China in terms of annual surgical volume and 14th in terms of scientific and technological impact by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (2021) (in recent years, the ranking has continued to rise, and it has been ranked 1st in Henan Province in thoracic surgery).
The department is a national key clinical specialty, a center of advanced medicine of Zhengzhou University, a key discipline of Henan Provincial Department of Education and a key medical specialty of Henan Province, a key laboratory of chest tumor medicine of Henan Province and a key laboratory of chest tumor of Zhengzhou City, a research center of lung cancer diagnosis and treatment of Zhengzhou University, a science and technology innovation team of Henan University and a quality control center of thoracic surgery of Henan Province.
The department routinely performs complex thoracic surgical procedures such as lung transplantation, complex esophageal cancer surgery, precise lung segment resection, da Vinci machine assisted manual surgery, complex mediastinal tumor surgery, complex airway surgery, respiratory endoscopy and other complex thoracic surgical procedures. The department has conducted many clinical and basic researches in recent years, and has published more than 20 SCI papers per year (ranked 7th in the world in terms of number of papers and total impact factors among thoracic surgery specialties).
The department has 136 professional staff, including 56 doctors, 74 nurses and 6 researchers. Facing the future, all the staff of the department will adhere to the hospital's spirit of "integrity, erudition, professionalism and innovation" and strive to build a high-quality thoracic surgery center.
