Rezum Treatment for BPH performed by Dr. Andrew L. Hirsh. The surgery includes Standard Steam Ablation technique (4 lesions) and Standard Steam Ablation technique (2 lesions).

Technique Description:

  • Standard Steam Ablation technique (4 lesions)
  • Standard Steam Ablation technique (2 lesions)


Procedure Steps:

  • 1. Evaluate Anatomy
  • 2. Measure/Estimate 1cm from Bladder Neck
  • 3. Measure/estimate length pf prostate
  • 4. Treatments approx. 1cm apart


Learning Points:

  • OK to treat obstructing median lobe, but can overtreat proximally; keep distance from bladder neck
  • Be careful not to overtreat; stem travels 1.5-2cm within prostate


Clinical History:

  • Case 1: 62M, Pre-op: AUA score 18; Qmax/flow 12cc/sec, 35cc prostate
  • Case 2: 59M, Pre op: AUA score 14; Qmx/flow 4.5cc/sec, 34cc prostate
