Diastasis of the rectus muscles is more common in women due to the puerperium and is associated with midline hernias. Endoscopic surgery makes it possible to restore the linea alba and treat its associated defects by offering a minimally invasive approach as an alternative to the more invasive classic open techniques.
Diastasis of the rectus muscles is a secondary separation of these muscles favored by the progressive weakening of the linea alba during pregnancy. Its symptoms range from the feeling of a bulging belly to the presence of midline hernias and pain, among others.
The REPA technique consists in restoring the firmness of the abdominal wall through the approximation of the rectus muscles. If there are midline hernias, these are repaired in the same procedure. The endoscopic approach is performed by placing three trocars, usually over the previous caesarean section scar, if there is one.
