The impact factor is a measure of the frequency with which the average article in a journal has been cited in a specific year. It is used to measure the importance or rank of a journal by calculating the times its articles are cited.

The h-index is calculated by counting the number of publications for which an author has been cited by other authors at least that same number of times. In this way, the number provides an idea of the extent to which an author’s work is quoted and how much the author has published.

Altmetrics are metrics and qualitative data that supplement traditional, citation-based metrics. Altmetrics can tell you how often journal articles are discussed on the internet, social media and so on. Altmetrics have been incorporated to researchers’ websites, institutional repositories, and journal websites.
