POSE (Primary Obesity Surgery Endolumenal) is an endolumenal procedure for treatment of obesity.
The procedure can be performed in an OR or endoscopic suite under general anesthesia and it takes about 40 minutes. It can be performed as a day case.
Its safety has been demonstrated, as well as the fact that is causes significant weight loss compared to diet and exercise alone. It also reduces satiety parameters in the short and long term. Some hormonal changes, such as a postprandial decrease in ghrelin, are observed after this procedure.
The POSE Procedure is indicated in obese or overweight patients who are not candidates to bariatric surgery, and who intend to implement changes in their lifestyle but need permanent assistance to improve satiety.
Karl Miller, Associate Professor of Surgery at the Diakonissen & Wehrle Private Clinic Salzburg, here gives an interesting lecture on POSE Procedure, demonstrating its surgical technique.
