Medical education has changed immensely in the last decades, as Rod Menchaca explains, from traditional medical education to open continuing medical education, collaborative education, open and validated education, and finally to behavior-driven continuing medical education with deep learning and big data. The current technology available in operating rooms is helping gather information that can be processed as big data which could be useful for educational purposes. All this information captured by Operating Room technology, after being post-processed by humans, can help individualize education according to surgeons’ performance of a given procedure. In the near future, the use of external validators will not be necessary, as the data gathered from the individual surgeon performance, analyzed by a combination of machines and humans, will help to make surgeons their own validators.
