One of many revolutions in rectal cancer surgery was moving from an open to a laparoscopic approach. Several issues, such maintaining the oncological quality of the resection, decrease surgical aggression, and increasingly sphincter-preserving procedures have been assessed by many authors in scientific publications.
The current hot topic among modern surgeons is the robotic surgical platforms and the trans-anal approach. In this lecture, Marta Jimenez-Toscano from the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona will explain the evolution of the data, analyzing the evolution of the surgical approaches.
