Electrocautery, sealing and dividing devices have enormously improved surgical practice in recent decades. Faster and safer surgery can be performed with these devices, which have different uses.
When finding the surgical plane in laparoscopic surgery, the hook electrocautery has proved to be very useful since it respects the tissues and does not seal different planes. Its combination with sealing and dividing devices is very convenient for dissection. Some devices can also be used as dissectors due to their thin tip and their ergonomics.
In this video Dr. Lacy, explains the different uses of a hook electrocautery and a sealing device in the dissection of the sigmoid colon while using a new device that combines both functions at the same time.
