This Show&Tell Talk is about the Dermabond advanced system and Dermabond Prineo Skin Closure System. There are so many methods to perform a surgical incisions close, such as titanium staplers or different sutures. Topical Skin Adhesion (TSA) had been developed and when deciding which TSA to use, the decision should be made based on microbial protection and patient comfort.
Dermabond has been developed in two different systems. The first one is an adhesive that can be applied on the surgical skin incision above the subcuticular sutures. The Dermabond Prineo TSA is also introduced, which allows for skin edge approximation in both surgical incisions. This product is very exclusive because it is the only skin closure system that combines the benefits of a liquid skin adhesive with a self-adhering mesh. The main benefits of using this system are based on attention redistribution to the surroundings without piercing the skin.
It should be borne in mind that an important step is to approximate the dermal layer specially in order to release tension from the skin and to ensure that healing is not hindered. Once the dermal layer is approximated, it is time to use the Dermabond Prineo TSA, which is made of a self-adhering mesh that is placed on the wound and acrylate liquid adhesive. The liquid is applied with the mesh.
All these procedures must guarantee patient safety and must be carried out with no tension.
