Prof. Mario Musella (ITALY) and his team from AOU "Federico II", Naples, Italy, perform a One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB)

Case Record:

Patient gained weight (40kg) after two consecutive pregnancies.
She followed several diets but failed to achieve a significant weight loss.


Clinical History:

  • 43-year-old female patient
  • BMI 43.3 Kg/m2
  • No previous bariatric surgery
  • No obesity-related comorbidities
  • History of Cesarean delivery



Procedure Steps:

  1. Trocar placement
  2. Creation of a long and narrow gastric pouch
  3. Preparation of a tailored Bilio-Pancreatic limb according to patient BMI
  4. Identification of a common limb at least 300 cm long
  5. Linear stapled gastro-entero anastomosis
  6. Closure of enterotomies with self-locking suture
  7. Blue test



Learning Points:

  1. Preparation of a long and narrow gastric pouch at least 12 cm long
  2. Preparation of the anterior/posterior face of the stomach
  3. Preparation of an adequate Bilio Pancreatic limb, neither too short (poor hypoabsorptive effect) nor too long (risk of protein malnutrition)
  4. Clean closure of the anastomosis
