Quality Improvement in surgical practice is critical to ongoing improvement both in terms of outcomes for patients as well as surgeon education. Collection and review of your own surgical data is a cornerstone for offering patients the best operation and clinical pathway. This video shows how our colleagues have used quality improvement projects to streamline their hospital flow as well as decrease complications. Quality improvement projects can be national, which can increase data collection and help address a variety of issues in perioperative care.

This presentation briefly reviews important national initiatives seeking enhanced recovery for patients after bariatric surgery. Other projects discussed seek to decrease narcotics in patients and highlight the need for telemetry. Reviewing quality improvement projects can help with your own patient management and give you ideas for quality improvement in your practice.
